Nullica River Mouth
The Nullica River is one of those places you drive past on your way somewhere and think,"i should fish there".On your way home you think, " i should have fished there".

Nullica River is situated about 45minutes to the south of Merimbula, approx 15 mins out of Eden.
On the southern side of the bridge there is a dirt road. It goes to some neat little picnic spots with open fire BBQ's in their own little picnic areas along with a proper above ground septic loo, bring your own paper in case. I don't think i would use the BBQ's, looked a bit grubby. From there you have access to either the beach or the estaurine side of the inlet.
You can't camp here overnight but erecting a temporary camp for the day on the sand that can sometimes be exposed for long periods between king tides. The sand here has to be some of the softest i have ever felt. You can take your shoes off and plow through the sand,it feels like powder.

I went there and met up with a couple guys from WA that were over for a holiday travelling up the east coast. They were fishing the entrance to the river. After asking to fish with them we got down to some good fishing, flathead, bream and mullet were caught by us over the next hour. The mullet was on a red tag fly fished just behind a rock in the river inlet. The flathead and bream were from behind the part of the rocky outcrop that protects the river from the sea.
One problem here is that the current is very strong and there is alot of weed that goes in and out of the mouth  it's very hard to stop being weeded up. You do loose fish due to the weed and bites can be very difficult to see and feel, feel is the word here i believe success here comes down to feeling the bites so you have to hold onto the rod, when you feel weed ,pull the line in and free it up ,rebait if you have to.
Bait we used was pippie(packet) and striped tuna. The pippie seemed to work the best. Sand worm and bass yabbie or live prawn would be great here but the weed is the only problem with softer baits.
I'd say we lost 5-6 fish in two hours including a "Kingy" ,yep i saw it just after it busted me off and it then jumped into the air just to asy "HA".
You can't fish here when it's dark as you can't see the weed. Fishing a bit more south of the entrance with surf gear or even the estaury gear you would use at the mouth will claer you from the weed and still give you the chance of some bream. Salmon are caught along this beach also.

Looking past the rocky outcrop into Twofold Bay
Looking into the river  from out fishing spot
Slack tide is reallty the best time but it doesn't last too long unfortunately. This is a really nice spot and one i will fbe fishing over and over again.

Looking over the soft sandy area
Both fish around 40cms
A couple of fellows were fly fishing up past the bridge and were picking up mullet pretty easilly and looking at the way the water has shallow and deep areas i'd bet there are some nice flathead lurking about just waiting for a nice soft plastic to flick by.
